Gormire Gamble Fell Race
The Gormire Gamble is a fell race held in the North York Moors. It takes place at the Sutton Bank Visitor Centre in the North York Moors National Park and is scheduled for Sunday 18 October 2026. The event is organised by Thirsk and Sowerby Harriers and forms part of the Esk Valley Fell Club winter fell race series.
The course is about 9 km long with 250 m of climb. It includes partially marked sections and requires navigational skills, with local knowledge an advantage. GPS navigation is not permitted. The route descends from the visitor centre to Gormire Lake and passes a viewpoint described as "the finest view in England."
The race is open to adult runners and commonly attracts fields of around 160 competitors from multiple clubs. Prizes are awarded across age categories including open, senior with U23 included, V40, subsequent five-year bands, and team prizes.
Terrain combines road and trail and often features tree branches, roots, and mud. Conditions can be wet, windy, and slippery later in the season. Runners must carry full FRA mandatory kit, including waterproof whole-body cover, hat, gloves, map, compass, and whistle. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
