Nordic
The event is held at the Nordic Trailhead in Kettle Moraine State Forest. The race starts and finishes at the trailhead and each loop also begins and ends there. GPS race address is N9084 Co Rd H, Whitewater, WI 53190.
Choose from the following course options:
- 3.6 miles Short Course, red flags
- 6.0 miles Mid Course, green flags
- 9.0 miles Long Course, blue flags
- 19ish miles Golden Gauntlet, all three courses run consecutively and require check in after each loop
Trail characteristics: the system is mostly grass trails about four runners wide, originally designed for cross country skiing. Expect rolling hills, wooded sections, and a prairie segment. Course distances are approximate.
Gear and aid: trail shoes are highly recommended. Runners should carry a hydration bottle or pack because aid stations do not provide paper cups. Trails may include rocks, roots, and other natural hazards; some sections such as Oleson Cabin and Blue Springs are more technical.
Logistics and facilities: ample parking is available at the trailhead and carpooling is encouraged. Vehicles entering the park must display an annual Wisconsin State Park sticker or a day pass; day passes at the park may require cash or check. Pit toilets are available at the trailhead.
Event services and policies: online race results, free photos, locally made finishers medals, post race snacks, and a free locally brewed craft beer token for participants 21 and older. Live music appears at select races. The event operates as a cupless race and promotes recycling and reduced impact on trails.
Series competition: runners earn series points for top ten places by gender and distance with a 10 to 1 point scale for 1st through 10th. Top three overall winners in each category receive prizes at the end of the series. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
