About the race
Glacier Glide is a Nordic ski race organized by the Glacier Nordic Club in Whitefish, Montana, held on January 9, 2027. The venue is to be determined based on snow conditions and may be at Big Mountain Nordic Trails (3315 Big Mountain Road) or the Whitefish Lake Golf Course. The event offers both classic and skate formats and may include combined pursuit-style races when held at the golf course.
Race distances and formats include:
- 20 km Viking Challenge, freestyle skate or classic
- 8 km skate or classic
- 4 km skate or classic
- 1 km youth race and cookie scramble at the golf course
Registration is online only; on-the-day registration is allowed but must be completed online. Lunch (chili and mac & cheese) is provided for registered racers at a nearby restaurant and is included with registration; non-racers may purchase lunch for a fee. Awards are presented at the restaurant after the races. The male and female winners of the Viking Challenge receive entry to the 2027 American Birkebeiner 50 km.
The event is part of the Montana Nordic Cup series and follows a fluorocarbon-free wax policy. Logistics notes from past editions: carpooling is recommended, overflow parking with shuttle is provided, there is no warming hut, and there are no registration refunds if the race is canceled due to lack of snow.
