Fire Ball Half and 4 Mile : Palo Duro Canyon State Park, Canyon TX
The event offers two trail distances organized by PALO DURO TRAIL RUN SERIES at the Mack Dick Pavilion in Palo Duro Canyon State Park, Canyon, TX.
- Half Marathon
- 4 Mile
Courses use a variety of surfaces including smooth single track, sand, and rock, with short but steep technical ascents and descents. The 4 mile course is a loop on the Comanche and Kiowa trails. The half marathon continues further into the canyon, passing red rock walls, bluffs, and cottonwood trees by a stream. Both courses head west onto Comanche trail from the start area.
Logistics include packet pick-up on the two days before race day and a race day pick-up at the Mack Dick parking lot. The half marathon has one aid station at approximately the halfway point (Mesquite); the event is cupless so participants should carry their own hydration to refill at the aid station. The aid station will provide water, an electrolyte drink mix, coke, ginger ale, pickle juice, gels, grapes, bananas, and assorted snacks. The half marathon has a 4.5 hour course cutoff to be included in results and eligible for awards.
Awards are given for 1st overall male and female, 1st masters overall male and female (age 50+), and standard age groups (14 & U; 15-19; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60-69; 70-79; 80+). The registration fee includes a post-race hot meal. Event policies note no refunds or rollovers, no race day distance changes, no pacers, no headphones on course, and no dogs on course; trekking poles are allowed.
