Essex XC Championships
The Essex XC Championships take place on Saturday 9 January 2027 at Gloucester Park, Basildon, SS14 3GR. Entries close on Sunday 3 January 2027. Entry fees range from £4 to £8.
Courses are multi-lap and described as fairly challenging; course maps will be shared closer to the event.
Races are organised by age group with approximate distances:
- U12 Girls and Boys: 1.5 km (school years 5–6; aged 10–11 on 31 Aug 2027)
- U14 Girls: 3.1 km (years 7–8; aged 12–13 on 31 Aug 2027)
- U14 Boys: 3.1 km (years 7–8; aged 12–13 on 31 Aug 2027)
- U16 Girls: 4.3 km (years 9–10; aged 14–15 on 31 Aug 2027)
- U16 Boys: 4.3 km (years 9–10; aged 14–15 on 31 Aug 2027)
- U18 Women: 5.2 km (years 11–12; aged 16–17 on 31 Aug 2027)
- U18 Men & U20 Women: 6.1 km (men 16–17; women 18–19 on 31 Aug 2027)
- Senior Women & U20 Men: 8 km (women 20 or older; men 18–19 on 31 Aug 2027)
- Senior Men: 12 km (men 20 or older on 31 Aug 2027)
The U12 race is non-championship and will not award Essex county medals. Senior women/U20 men should be capable of finishing 8 km in 65 minutes (8:00 min/km pace). Senior men who have not completed 2 of 3 laps (8 km) in 50 minutes (6:25 min/km pace) may be asked to retire.
Team medals count four to score for most age groups; senior men score six. The event is held under UKA Rules. All entrants must be current England Athletics members and eligible for Essex Championships by birth or by continuous residence in Essex for the nine months prior to the event. Entrants are subject to the UKA Anti-Doping Rules for 12 months from the date of entry. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
