Nine Edges Endurance for Edale MRT

Nine Edges Endurance is a fundraising endurance event for Edale Mountain Rescue Team. The route is a 20 mile traverse from Fairholmes in the Upper Derwent to the Robin Hood Inn near Birchen Edge, crossing nine gritstone edges and rough moorland with about 900 m of ascent. The event is organised as walk, run, or climb; climbers are expected to climb one route on each of the nine edges.

The running element is held under Fell Runners Association rules as a category BL event with experience required and partial course marking. Navigation ability is required. Runners must use a physical map and traditional compass for navigation and may not use GPS for navigation. Walkers and climbers may use GPS but must also carry a physical map and traditional compass.

Entry includes refreshments at marshal points, a drink at the finish and bus transport back to the start. The entry fee includes a per participant donation to the Peak District National Park Foundation. Minimum age is 18. Dogs are permitted with walkers and climbers only and must be kept on a lead; dogs are not permitted with runners. Poles are allowed for walkers and climbers but not for runners.

Participants must carry mandatory kit including a waterproof jacket and leg cover, hat and gloves, warm layers, whistle, food and fluids, a physical map and traditional compass, and a survival bag or emergency shelter. The route follows established rights of way and nine named edges including Derwent and Stanage Edge. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
