Eccles Pike Fell Race
Eccles Pike Fell Race is an historic fell race from Buxworth that runs to the summit of Eccles Pike and returns to the village. It is a short, direct course described as a run to the top of a hill and back. The race is held on the second Wednesday in August and the 2027 edition is listed for 11 August.
The event is an AS graded fell race of 3.4M (5.4 km) with approximately 901 feet (275 m) of ascent. Race headquarters are at Bugsworth War Memorial Club, postcode SK23 7NJ. Numbers are issued on the night and a route map is published for the course. Organisers maintain an archive of results going back many years and list course records for the current route established from 2009, including times recorded in 2024 and an all time course best from 1980.
Prizes are offered separately to female and male runners for first to third places and for age categories V40, V45, V50, V55, V60, V65 and V70. As part of a commitment to reducing climate change, the organisers issue a two pound drinks voucher to participants who travel to the race by public transport, on foot, by bicycle, by running to the start, or who car share with four or more people.
