Deception Pass Half Marathon & 10K
- 13.1 miles Half Marathon
- 10K
- 19.3 miles The Double
The event takes place at Deception Pass State Park, on trails that run along coastline bluffs, cliffs, and dense forest. The half marathon course crosses Deception Pass Bridge twice at about 180 feet above the water and uses single-track trails that are often rocky or rooty. Hills are generally short but can be steep, and trail footing is described as technical, narrow, and twisty.
Both races start and finish at the East Cranberry Lake Picnic Area and run toward North Beach on low-traffic paved park roads before entering the trails. The 10K is a loop on the south side of the bridge; the half follows the 10K loop then continues to Rosario Head, Lighthouse Point, and Lottie Point trails before returning to the final miles of the 10K loop. Aid stations are provided on course and stocked with water, electrolyte drink, peanut butter and jelly, fresh fruit, chips, pickles, cookies or candy, some gels, and basic first aid and hygiene items. Runners must wear their bib visibly on the front for tracking at aid stations.
Logistics include required parking passes for the park, no overnight parking at the start/finish lot, and available campground options within the park. There are cutoffs at aid stations; runners not cleared by those cutoffs will be removed from course by staff or volunteers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
