Cumbrian Traverse

The Cumbrian Traverse is a professionally guided, fully supported high level route through the heart of the Lake District. The route starts at Broughton Mills in Dunnerdale and finishes in Keswick. The event covers 50 km with about 3,500 meters of ascent and crosses 21 fells, including Great Stickle, Dow Crag, Bowfell, Great Gable and Cat Bells.

The organisers offer a maximum of 12 places for the open event on Saturday 26th September 2026. The published entry fee is £299 with an instalment option available. The minimum age for entry is 18.

Two pace options are offered. The Run option is a slow run with walking on steep or technical sections and aims to complete the route in approximately 14 to 16 hours. The Walk option avoids running and aims to complete the route in approximately 16 to 18 hours. Groups may be split further on the day depending on numbers and progress.

Included in the event are low ratio guiding and supervision with a maximum guiding ratio of 1:6, refuelling opportunities at two locations on the route, a support vehicle with a qualified leader, and transport from Keswick to the start plus transport to the finish for those who drop out. A 22 km fell race from Tilberthwaite Farm with about 1,535 m of ascent on a route new from 2025. Run under FRA rules, entry is limited to 350 and requires mandatory kit and navigation skills.
