Chariots of Fire Beach Race
Chariots of Fire Beach Race will take place on 31 May 2026 at West Sands, St Andrews. The main event is a simple out and back 5 km course run entirely on sand and, where the tide allows, in the surf. The halfway point is marked and a piper will signal the turn.
A children's fun run of 1 mile is provided for ages 11 and under; this race is chip timed so every child receives an individual finish time. The adult 5 km has a one hour cut off. Presentations will be made to the top three male and female finishers in both races and age category prizes will also be awarded.
Entry is charged at £19 for the adult 5 km. Children's entries are available on the day for £5. After staging costs, proceeds are donated to RNLI, Home Start and Families First. Entries are limited; past entry phases have included first come allocation and a random ballot.
Registration is based at a marquee on West Sands where runners collect a numbered race bib with an inbuilt timing chip. There are no changing facilities at the start but a council toilet block is nearby and additional temporary toilets are provided. Plentiful free parking is available behind the sand dunes with marshals directing traffic.
All over 18 finishers receive a beer and all finishers receive a doughnut and medal. Gluten free and vegan options and non alcoholic drinks are available. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
