Tentsmuir Forest 8-hour Challenge - 24 Oct 2026
This event challenges runners to complete as many 4.367 mile loops as possible within an eight hour time limit. Each lap is recorded by an electronic wristband that logs lap start and finish times with the event timing system.
Key distance targets:
- 3 laps equals a Half Marathon
- 6 laps equals a Full Marathon
- 7 or more laps counts as an Ultra Marathon
The route is on trail paths around Tentsmuir Forest, with roughly 20 ft of ascent per lap. A GPX file is provided for full route details and the event basecamp location.
Basecamp offers kit storage and two 6 x 3 metre gazebos; spectators are welcome. The organiser does not accept liability for lost kit. Participants are advised to bring suitable storage containers for equipment and clothing.
Mandatory kit includes sufficient nutrition and hydration for the event: minimum 1500 ml fluid and 60–90 g carbohydrates per hour of running, appropriate weather clothing, dry clothes for after the event, and a mobile phone.
The timing system uses HuTags on velcro wrist straps. Tags must not be covered and runners should avoid congregating at the start line to prevent false readings. Runners must check out at Basecamp to return timing tags, confirm lap totals and receive a finisher bag.
Parking at Tentsmuir uses a pay barrier; the daily charge is £4. Total places are 250 and the event status is open. Early entry price until 21 Oct 2026 is £44.95.
Refunds are available up to two months before the event. Event transfers to another event are permitted up to one month before. Participant place transfers are permitted up to one week before the event.
Volunteer roles include start/finish staff, route marshals, registration and car park support. Volunteers may receive a free entry to a future event and can choose time slots from around five hours to the full event duration. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
