Centurion South Downs Way 50
The event is a 50 mile (81 km) foot race along the South Downs Way National Trail, running from Worthing to Eastbourne. The route leaves Hillbarn Recreation Ground and joins the South Downs Way near Chanctonbury Ring, then follows the SDW to Eastbourne Sports Club Athletics Track where runners complete a lap of the track to finish. The race is the 15th annual running of the SDW50 and is the first race in the 2027 50 Mile Grand Slam of four events.
The course has approximately 5,700 ft (1,750 m) of climb and is around 85% trail and 15% road. The event uses South Downs Way marker posts plus red and white tape and Centurion arrows; runners remain responsible for negotiating several un-marsalled road crossings. The course is marked and there will be seven aid stations along the route offering water, sports nutrition, sandwiches, hot drinks at Alfriston, Jevington and the finish, and options for special dietary needs. Full medical support is provided and the race is held under a UK Athletics permit.
Entries open on 26 April 2026 with 650 places on open registration on a first come, first served basis and a waiting list once places are filled. Entrants must have completed at least a marathon within that event's cut off time between 1 January 2022 and race day. The entry fee is £118 (£120 for unaffiliated runners).
