Catskill 100 Miler

The Running Kind presents one of the first carbon neutral 100 mile trail races in the country, held in the Catskill Mountains and routed from Huckleberry Point Trailhead in Elka Park, New York. The course runs through four distinct NYS Wilderness Areas and includes the full Devil’s Path.

Distances

  • 100 miles main event, approximately 100 miles with over 25,000 ft elevation gain and descent
  • 25K offered the same weekend by Climb It For Climate
  • 8K offered the same weekend by Climb It For Climate

Over the distance runners summit 12 of the 33 Catskill High Peaks, including Indian Head, Twin, Sugarloaf, Plateau, Hunter, West Kill, Wittenberg, Cornell, Slide, Big Indian, Eagle and Balsam. The route is on extremely technical terrain and is intended for experienced mountain runners.

Entry is by application. Organizers maintain a list of pre approved qualifying races and accept prior 100 mile or 100K efforts as qualifiers. Due to permitting and preservation requirements, runners start in heats of 15 every 5 minutes, with female and non binary runners released first, then men. The event is led by a female leadership team and the race director reserves 50% of spots for women and non binary runners.

Crew, pacer and drop bag rules are specified. Crew access and pacer pickup/drop are allowed at Aid #3 Spruceton Road, Aid #4 Notch Lake, Aid #7 Woodland Valley Campground, Aid #8 Biscuit Brook and Aid #9 McKenley Hollow Trailhead. Pacers must register, complete a gear check, wear a pacer bib, may not leave vehicles at aid stations, and each runner may have two pacers but only one on course at a time. Drop bags are available at Aid #2 Notch Lake, Aid #4 Notch Lake, Aid #6 Silver Hollow and Aid #8 Biscuit Brook. Runners and crew who do not follow the rules may be disqualified.
