Castle C’alf is a fell race held in Old Town, Hebden Bridge on Sun 4 Oct 2026. The race distance is 12 km with about 490 m of climb. The minimum age for entry is 18. The event is licensed by the Fell Runners Association under UKA rules.

Course and route

The route covers the final stages of the full Castle Carr race and is flagged through the private Castle Carr estate on race day. Competitors are asked not to use the estate before the event. Checkpoints are positioned on the moor and at named points including Sheepstones trig, Crow Hill, Rocking Stone and the gate into the estate. Recce and race maps are provided by the organiser.

Entry, rules and logistics

Pre-entry is required and is scheduled to open in mid-September. Pre-entry fees are £7 for FRA members and £9 for non-members. Entry on the day may be available if the race limit is not reached; on-the-day fees are a pound higher. The race is run as a non-GPS navigation event for competition purposes; GPS devices may be used only to record a route or in an emergency. FRA mandatory kit is checked before number allocation and includes waterproof full body cover (waterproof trousers and jacket with taped seams and an integrated hood), hat (not a buff), gloves, map, compass, whistle and emergency food. Parking at the venue is very limited; public transport and car sharing are encouraged. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
