Carkeek Warmer Trail Run
Carkeek Warmer takes place at Carkeek Park in Seattle and uses roughly six miles of forest trails that vary from wide rolling trail to narrower, steeper singletrack. The route is mostly in forest and includes flatter sections as well as moderate to steep climbs.
Distances
- 5k (3.1 miles), 480 feet of elevation gain
- 10k (6.2 miles), 960 feet of elevation gain
The start and finish are in the Lower Meadow next to Piper's Creek. The 5k follows the Piper’s Creek Trail with a gradual then steeper climb to the head of the valley, returns partway, then climbs the South Ridge Trail before descending via the Clay Pit and Hillside Trails to the meadow. The 10k is two loops of the 5k course. Distance was measured with a measuring wheel and climb was estimated from contour maps; distance is likely within 1% and climb within 10%.
An aid station is located at the start/finish and provides water, Skratch Labs electrolyte drink, and a selection of carbohydrate and salty foods such as cookies, bars, gels, chips, bagels, candy, fig bars, and bananas.
Organizers provide hot dogs, veggie dogs, watermelon and other snacks after the event, present awards for the top three Female and Open category finishers in each distance, and hold a raffle.
Trails remain open to other users. Participants are responsible for their own safety. Passing etiquette, low headphone volume, and USATF rules that forbid dogs on course apply. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
