Cane Creek Mountain Trail Run
The 2nd Annual Cane Creek Mountain Trail Run takes place at Cane Creek Mountain Natural Area in Snow Camp, NC. The event offers two distances on mostly single-track trails that feature rocky and root-filled sections, repeated climbs, and limited flat terrain. The park covers approximately 1,000 acres and the course reaches the mountain peak at 987 feet, where an 80 foot observation tower provides views as far as Winston Salem on a clear day.
Course details include an opening mile of wide gravel and flat trails, followed by a steep 300 foot ascent called "THE CLIMB." Both courses pass an aid station at the tower; runners who decline the optional tower ascent serve a five minute real-time time penalty at the aid station. A brisk walk to the tower top and back typically takes 3 to 4 minutes. The organizer rates the courses as semi-technical with a technical rating of 4- out of 5.
Registration includes chip timing, frequent aid stations, a race tee, finisher medal, post-race food, shuttle service from parking, medical support, and free photo downloads. Awards are given to overall and age-group finishers and all finishers receive a medal. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
