Shakori 40 Running Festival
The Shakori 40 Running Festival is held at the Shakori Hills Community Art Center in Pittsboro, North Carolina. The event features a cross-country style course that winds through the scenic trails of the property. Participants can choose from several trail race options, all utilizing a 4 mile loop system.
Available race distances include:
- 40 Miles Individual (10 laps of the 4 mile course)
- 40K Individual (6 laps of the 4 mile course)
- 40 Mile Team Relay (for up to 10 members)
- 4 Miles Open Race (single lap)
The 40 mile team relay uses an age-graded scoring system where individual times are adjusted based on age and sex. Relay team members must complete at least one 4 mile loop and carry a timing baton throughout the race. Individual runners in the 40 mile and 40K events must pass through a designated checkpoint each lap to record their official times.
The festival grounds offer amenities including an event campsite, bonfires, and live music. Two aid stations are located on the course, with one placed at the halfway point of the loop and another at the event camp site. These stations provide water, electrolyte drinks, gels, and bananas.
