Burros in the Pines - Flagstaff, Arizona
Burros in the Pines is an inaugural pack burro race held in Flagstaff, Arizona. Teams consist of one runner and one burro running together on mountain trails at about 7,000 feet. The burro carries a pack saddle, the runner carries snacks, and no one rides.
The event takes place at Fort Tuthill County Park - Equestrian Center in a ponderosa pine setting. Proceeds benefit Forever Home Donkey Rescue & Sanctuary, a 501(c)(3) organization.
Course options include:
- The Tenderfoot Trot (~3 miles)
- The Prospector's Pursuit (~6 miles)
- The Mother Lode (13 miles)
Lease burros are available on a first-come, first-served basis via RSVP through Forever Home Donkey Rescue & Sanctuary. The race follows pack burro traditions from mining-country history, and the event emphasizes the burro's welfare at every mile. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
