Burgh Backyard
The Burgh Backyard is Edinburgh and Lothian’s Backyard Ultra held at Dalkeith Country Park on the Palace Lawn at Dalkeith Palace, postcode EH22 2NA. The event uses the Backyard Ultra format: competitors complete a fixed loop each hour and may start the next loop only if they finished the previous one within the hour. The loop length is 6.7056 km / 4.167 mile and every loop begins on the hour. The race continues until a single runner completes one final solo loop to become the official Last One Standing; there is no set finish time or fixed total distance.
The course is an accurately measured route through Dalkeith Country Park with the start and finish beside the event village. There is no aid station on the course; water, hot water and basic food are available at the event village only. After dark runners must carry a working headtorch and a backup light. Mandatory kit includes a working headtorch, a second light, a fully charged mobile phone, suitable footwear, clothing for conditions and a reusable cup or bottle.
Each runner receives an event medal and completed yards and total distance are recorded. Support crew rules allow a maximum of three people per runner sharing a 3 m x 3 m runner area; crew cannot provide assistance on course.
