Bristol Backyard Ultra 2027

Bristol Backyard Ultra 2027 takes place at Blaise Castle Estate in Bristol and is organised by Gravel & Grit Events. The 2027 event is sold out and the waiting list is closed.

The event uses the Backyard Ultra format. Runners complete one loop every hour. Each loop is 4.167 mile long. Finish the lap before the bell to continue; miss the bell, finish late, or stop and the race ends. There is no fixed distance or set race duration. The last runner remaining is the only finisher.

The loop winds through woodland trails, open fields and rocky sections, and includes a technical descent called Dynamite Hill. Expect about 160 m of elevation gain per lap, making the course hilly and at times technical rather than fast and flat.

Basecamp facilities are provided, including an area for runners without crews. Friends and family can attend, and facilities are available nearby. The event FAQ notes the course deserves respect and that running without a crew is common.

The first edition in 2026 was sold out with 104 runners on the start line and more than 300 runners and spectators across the weekend. The inaugural winner completed 26 yards.

Recommended kit guidance mentions trail shoes, warm layers, waterproofs, spare socks, a headtorch, nutrition, hydration and basecamp comfort items. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
