The Borders Ultra Challenge 2027

The Borders Ultra Challenge is a new Ultra Challenge event taking place on 28-29 August 2027. The route starts in Berwick-upon-Tweed and finishes in North Berwick, following the Berwickshire Coastal Path and passing Emouth, St Abb’s Head, a halfway stop at the marathon distance, Dunbar, and inland from John Muir Country Park.

Distances include:

  • 84 km double-marathon route
  • 42 km marathon
  • North Berwick 10 Mile option

The event supports walking, jogging, or running and offers a range of participation choices including Solo Start, Ultra March option, and Trailblazerz option. There are camping packages with showers and chill-out areas and transfer options including shuttle buses to local train stations.

Route support includes marquee rest stops approximately every 12.5 km with larger rest stops every ~25 km. Rest stops provide catering, seating, changing rooms, medical and welfare tents, and options for meals and snacks. The event provides an app with GPS tracking and a fully signed route. Medical cover includes doctors, paramedics, first aid teams, podiatrists, massage teams, and mobile emergency medical teams monitored by a 24-hour control room.

Finish-line provisions include a finisher’s T-shirt, medal, a finishers meal, a glass of fizz, and a BBQ. The event also accommodates corporate teams with optional hospitality and support services. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.

A 6.5 km circular hill race around Oldhamstocks with about 200 m of climb, mostly on rough track with short tarmac sections. Organised by Dunbar Running Club, registration and race numbers are issued at the village hall.
