Bollihope Carrs Fell Race

The Bollihope Carrs Fell Race is a medium-length (BM) fell running event located in Weardale, Co. Durham. The course covers a distance of 11 km with a total ascent of 380 m+. The event is organized by the Durham Fell Runners and is licensed by the Fell Runners Association (FRA). Due to Natural England restrictions, participation is limited to a maximum of 50 entries.

The race begins at the Bollihope Quarry car park, situated 3 km South West of Frosterley. The route follows the river to the west before climbing across rough ground to reach the summit of Bollihope Carrs. Participants then descend to the east to reach the summit of Catterick before making a final descent back to the starting point.

Because the route is unmarked and the terrain is subject to sudden weather changes, participants are required to carry full FRA kit. This equipment includes a provided map, compass, whistle, hat, gloves, and waterproof jacket and trousers with taped seams. Competitors must possess navigation skills using a map and compass as the use of GPS for navigation is prohibited. Additionally, the use of running poles is not permitted.

The event is open to individuals aged 18 or older. Registration takes place on the morning of the race at the start location. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
