BMF UTA Training 6 to 7.5 hours, QV to QV Loop / Kedumba
This guided long training run takes place in the Blue Mountains around Katoomba and follows sections of the Ultra Trail Australia courses. The base route is the QV to Kedumba loop with key sections listed as Kedumba, Fern Bower, Leura Cascades, Wentworth Falls and Kings Tableland Road. The advertised distances are 20 km, 34 km, and 45 km+, with a minimum route of 34 km and an option to bail out at about 20 km at Gordon Falls Park.
Run leaders hold an NPWS ECO PASS licence and align the training with structured UTA race plans and The Locker Room 16 week race plans. Trainers provide guidance on race preparation, mandatory UTA50/100/Miler gear, pacing, nutrition and course strategy. Three pace groups are offered: the Mighty Turtles, a mid paced group and the Speedy Hares. Runners may move between pace groups during the run and the organisers state that no one is left behind.
Participants should bring fuel and hydration suitable for roughly seven hours on feet. The event has a minimum age of 16. Fees are listed for the full course and the 20 km option. The course route may be adjusted for national park or weather-related closures and other unforeseen circumstances. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
