About the race

This is a guided night training run on the Ultra Trail Australia (UTA) courses in the Blue Mountains, starting at Violet Street in Katoomba opposite Scenic World. The route follows Echo Point, descends via Giant Stairs into the Jamison Valley, travels through Leura Forest to the Old Sewer Plant turnoff, then descends into Kedumba toward the helipad, Leura Falls Creek and Jamison Creek before returning. The exact distance depends on how far participants proceed into Kedumba. The training course combines sections of the UTA11, UTA22, UTA50, UTA100 and UTA Miler routes and includes stairs, hills, single track and fire trails.

Running in the valley at night is noted as a different experience and the session includes stair and hill work. Three pace groups are planned: the MIGHTY TURTLES, a mid paced group and the SPEEDY HARES. A walker group may be added if required. Participants are expected to carry UTA50 mandatory gear, including two working lights, and enough food and hydration for about four to five hours on feet.

The minimum age is 16. Blue Mountains Fitness holds a National Parks and Wildlife Service ECO PASS licence and insurance to conduct training on the UTA course. A full information sheet with meeting points and a route map will be provided to participants before the training day. Fee is A$85. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
