About the race
Set on the edge of the North Yorkshire Dales in Masham, the Blacksheep Challenge is a looped running event organised by Its Grim Up North Running with two time-based options. Runners complete as many laps as they can within their chosen time window, ring a bell to finish a lap and receive a bespoke medal, a beer and a sausage sandwich with alcohol free and vegetarian options available. The course mixes trail and short road sections, includes stiles and gates, and features one steady climb. Laps are roughly 3.3 to 3.5 miles and the route is marshalled and signed, though not every corner will have a marshal.
Feed and drinks are provided around every three miles at the start/finish area; the event encourages reusable cups and bottles as feed stations aim to be cup-less. GPX files are available for navigation and there may be unmarshalled road crossings. Practical details include toilets at the town market square and parking on the field near Masham Sports Club with a £5 parking contribution to local charities. The event is licensed by the Trail Running Association under UKA rules.
Transfers and deferrals can be self-served online, and runners who withdraw should inform the nearest marshal. Finishers receive additional treats alongside the medal. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
