Black Gold 24hr and 12hr Endurance Challenge
The Black Gold Endurance Challenge is an endurance event held on Saturday, November 21, 2026, at Belfry High School in Belfry, KY, organized by Tug Valley Road Runners. The event uses a 1 mile loop that begins and ends on the school track and runs around the school parking lot. The course is described as mostly flat with some downhills; reversing direction adds two hills. The course is open to traffic and is not certified.
Event formats include:
- 24 Hour individual and relay
- 12 Hour individual and relay
- 24hr and 12hr rucksack divisions
- 3 person relay teams
Chip timing is provided through MyLaps with timing mats on course and a halfway mat. Relay teams use ankle bracelet timing tags that must be worn to record laps. Participants may leave and return during the event but must keep timing tags and bibs. Rucksack participants carry a 25 lb weight; sacks are weighed before the event, every six hours, and after the event.
Facilities and support include porta potties along the course, parking next to the track, on-site indoor lodging in the soccer locker room with showers, outdoor camping and vehicle sleeping, food and hydration stations with water, Gatorade, soda and coffee, and a variety of donated and cooked meals. Phone coverage is available via Verizon and Appalachian Wireless. Awards include top male and female in each division, top teams, rucksack awards, belt buckles for mileage goals, and wooden cutouts noting completed miles. Donations are accepted to fund solar lights and signage along the Conquer the Wall course. Animals are welcome. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
