Black Gold 24 hour and 12 hour Endurance Challenge
The Black Gold 24 hour and 12 hour Endurance Challenge takes place on November 21, 2026 at Belfry High School in Belfry, KY. The event is organized by Tug Valley Road Runners and uses a 1 mile loop that begins and ends on the school track and travels around the school parking lot.
Event formats include 24 hour and 12 hour individual efforts, 24 hour and 12 hour relays, and 24 hour and 12 hour rucksack divisions. The rucksack weight is 25 lbs and rucks will be weighed before the event, every six hours, and after the event. Awards are planned for top male and female in the 24 hour and 12 hour categories, top rucksack performers, top teams, and for specific mileage goals such as belt buckles and small wood cutouts.
Chip timing will be used, with bib chips and ankle bracelets for relay tracking; a halfway timing mat will also be in place. Participants must cross timing mats to record laps. The course is flat with some downhills and offers the option to run in reverse, which adds two hills. The course is not certified and is open to traffic. Porta potties will be placed along the route and near the start and finish.
Onsite amenities include hydration (water, Gatorade, pickle juice), coffee, a variety of food including donated and home cooked options, parking adjacent to the track, indoor lodging in the soccer locker room with showers, and space for tents or sleeping in vehicles.
