Big Bear SquaTch South : Harriman State Park, Tuxedo NY
Big Bear SquaTch South is a trail running event held in Harriman State Park near Tuxedo, New York on October 18, 2026. The event uses a lollipop course layout and offers two distances:
- 13.1M on technical singletrack
- 10K on technical singletrack
Both routes feature highly technical terrain with rocks, roots, steep climbs and descents, and at least one short scramble. Approximate cumulative elevation gain is about 2,200 feet for the half marathon and about 1,200 feet for the 10K. Course markings use bright ribbons and large directional arrows; the half uses neon pink reflective ribbon and the 10K uses blue ribbon.
Time limits apply: there is a five hour overall cutoff. The half marathon includes two on-course cutoffs at roughly mile 4.75 and mile 9.5 and requires an average pace of about 22 minutes 54 seconds per mile to meet cutoffs. 10K runners need to maintain roughly a 38 minute 42 second per mile pace to finish within the five hour limit. The event is capped at 175 participants and has sold out in recent years.
Aid stations provide water and food items including bananas, granola bars, Skratch, peanut butter and jelly, fruit, and gluten free options. Each aid station has a first aid kit and an AED is kept at event headquarters. Required gear lists and recommended equipment are specified for each distance. The course is not recommended for wheeled mobility devices; ambulatory adaptive athletes are supported and guides may accompany athletes. Portable toilets including one ADA unit are available at the start and finish area. The event notes local wildlife, including black bears, and provides guidance for bear encounters.
