Beyond Durham is a fully supported trail running event on Saturday 18 September 2027 that starts and finishes beside The Bandstand on Durham Riverside in the city centre (DH1 3JU). Both routes are fully signed and supported with marshals and feed stations.
The 55 km route follows the River Wear through Durham, joins the Old Railway Line at about 3.5 miles, then passes through Langley Park, Lanchester and Consett before turning east onto the C2C route toward Stanley and Chester-le-Street and returning to Durham along the River Wear for the finish.
The 25 km route heads south out of Durham along the railway line toward Langley Moor and Meadowfield, continues through Croxdale Wood and Butterby Wood, and uses the River Wear for the final 5 km back to the finish.
Feed stations are provided on both routes: three stations on the 55 km course at roughly 10, 20 and 26 miles, and one station on the 25 km course at about 8 miles. Runners are expected to carry basic compulsory kit including a running backpack or vest, water or fluids, a charged mobile phone with emergency contacts saved, food or gels, and a lightweight jacket.
Live chip timing is provided by Timing Up North. The overall event cut-off is 6:30 pm; 55 km competitors must reach the final feed station by 4:00 pm or they will not be permitted to continue. All finishers receive an event medal, event merchandise and a post-race snack and drink. The event is open to everyone and runs through both city riverside and nearby countryside.
