Event Overview
The Banchory Beast Race is a 10 km obstacle course race located at Knockburn Loch in Strachan, Aberdeenshire. The event utilizes the natural terrain of the area, featuring large hill climbs, thick clay mud, deep bogs, and water sections within the loch.
Course and Obstacles
The course includes 30 different obstacles designed to test physical endurance. Participants encounter various structures and natural challenges, including:
- 10 km course with 30 obstacles
- Water-based challenges such as the Beast Wash, water slides, and wobbly floating islands
- Climbing elements including 2-meter A-frame walls, vertical wooden walls, and cargo nets
- Mud and swamp sections like the Beast Bog and orange clay mud trenches
- Technical obstacles including monkey bars, sandbag carries, and crawling under barbed wire
The route also involves steep ascents and descents on sand and gravel slopes. Participants must navigate through dark canvas tubes and dense forest sections during the race.
Participant Information
Each entry includes electronic race timing and a finisher's memento. A group dance warm-up is conducted before the start. The event village features music and street food vendors throughout the day. Spectators may attend the event at no cost. Performance t-shirts made from recycled materials are available as optional additions to the registration.
