Beast of Bamford Fell Race

The Beast of Bamford is a winter fell race held in Bamford in the Peak District and organised as a Christmas fundraising event for Bamford Recreation Ground. All proceeds go towards refurbishment of the play park on Bamford with Thornhill Recreation Ground. The event is in its third year and follows a bat shaped anticlockwise tour of the Hope Valley skyline.

The route passes across Bamford Moor, along Bamford Edge, past the Ladybower plug holes, over Win Hill and finishes at the Recreation Ground. There are two route options:

  • 15 km (9 miles), ascent 650 m (2100 ft)
  • 25 km (15.5 miles), ascent 1100 m (3600 ft)

Maps show mandatory checkpoints and a suggested connecting route. Runners must visit all checkpoints to complete the race. Back markers follow the route and assist runners in difficulty. Participants may choose other routes where they have right of way. Purple areas on the map are out of bounds and entering them may lead to disqualification. A higher resolution map is available as a separate document.

Registration takes place at Bamford Village Institute. Entry prices are £16 for members, £17 for non members and £18 on the day. Free car parking is provided on Bamford with Thornhill Recreation Ground, S33 0DA, off Station Road. The race is licensed by the FRA under UKA Rules and requires FRA Mandatory Minimum Kit to be carried for the whole event; kit will be checked at the start and may be checked at the finish. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
