The Bear 100 : event overview
The Bear 100 is a point to point 100 miles race across the Bear River Range, starting near the mouth of Logan Dry Canyon on the east bench of Logan, Utah, and finishing near Bear Lake. The course totals 100 miles with about 20,321 feet of climb, a maximum elevation of 8,865 feet, a minimum elevation of 4,853 feet, and an average elevation near 7,251 feet.
The route features many long climbs and varied descents; some downhills are smooth while others are rocky. The race takes place in late September to coincide with autumn colors. Expect large day to night temperature swings, with nighttime temperatures often below freezing in mountain valleys, and visible stands of red maples and quaking aspen.
Entry is managed by a lottery. For the 2027 race, entrants must have a qualifying performance within the prior four years, such as an official 50 mile under 16 hours or an official 100K, 100, or 200 mile within cutoff times. Volunteer work of eight hours completed before the race is required, with a submission deadline of September 15.
Logistics: dozens of hotels are within ten minutes of the start in Logan and shuttle service from the finish back to the start is available for a fee of $25 plus tax.
Awards include an event tech shirt for entrants, year specific wooden awards for finishers, belt buckles that vary by finishing time, cash prizes for the top three, and a Bear Tag for overall winners. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
