River Gorge : Bad Beard Events
The River Gorge trail races take place on the Mullens Cove and Pot Point loops in the Prentice-Cooper Wildlife Management Area, just outside Chattanooga, Tennessee. The courses run on highly technical single track with notable bluff views of the Tennessee River and cascading streams lined with rhododendron and towering hemlock.
Distances:
- 6.5 miles: approximately 1,500 ft elevation gain
- 10.2 miles: approximately 2,000 ft elevation gain
- 20 miles: approximately 3,000 ft elevation gain
The event uses looped single-track trails that include steep and technical sections. Time cutoffs are published for each distance: 6.5 Miler 2 hours 30 minutes, 10.2 Miler 3 hours 30 minutes, and 20 Miler 5 hours 30 minutes. Awards include overall Male and Female 1st through 3rd place, with an awards ceremony held after the race.
Registration is online only; there is no walk-up registration on race day. Packet pickup is available the day before and at the start area on race day. Races rely on volunteers for course marshals, aid stations, packet pickup, and finish-line support. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
