About the race
The Atlanta Fat Ass is an annual, low key post holiday trail event held at Sweetwater Creek State Park in Lithia Springs, GA. It has been organized since 1994 and is presented as a community, member-focused run.
Distances
- 50K: six loops on the park's white trails, all trail with a few hills
- 25K
The course consists of six loops on the white trails with varied terrain and a few hills. The start and finish are at the Group Shelter. Hot food will be available at the finish. Packet pickup takes place at the Group Shelter on race morning.
The event is free for Georgia Ultrarunning and Trailrunning Society (GUTS) members only. Parking is in the Group Shelter parking lot or adjacent areas; a $10 state park parking fee is in effect beginning 1/1/26, or an annual Georgia State Park pass may be used. The park fee is collected after arrival into the park, so participants should be prepared with payment or a valid pass.
A FatAss Crockpot Chili Contest runs alongside the run. Entrants bring chili in a crockpot; bowls, utensils and some toppings are provided. Runners receive ballots to vote for their favorite chili and the winning entry receives a special GUTS prize.
