Merrimack River 10-Mile Trail Race
The event is a USATF sanctioned, 10 mile out-and-back trail race in Andover, MA, held from the back parking lot of the DoubleTree by Hilton on Old River Road. It is part of the North Shore Trail Series and donates event profits to the Andover Village Improvement Society for Merrimack River Trail maintenance.
Race services include portable bathroom facilities (participants are asked not to use the hotel’s facilities), bagels, fruit, drinks and snacks after the race, and a post-race raffle and awards. Water is available unmanned at 2 and 8 miles, and staffed at 4 miles. Results are timed and scored.
Entry options and fees are published in advance. Online pre-registration fees are lower; race day registration is available at a higher fee and accepts cash and electronic payments. T-shirts are available for an additional fee with a limited quantity of about 40 shirts. There is no field limit. Refunds and deferrals are not offered.
Prizes include a cash award for new course records and a variety of homemade baked prizes for overall and age-group winners, including awards for non-binary, female and male categories, second and third place across ten-year age groups from under 20 to 80 plus, and a prize for the largest team and the muddiest runner. Free entry is offered to qualifying club members and prior winners. Minor Athlete Abuse Protection Policies (MAAPP) are referenced for the event.
