A Shot in The Dark Night Trail Race
A Shot in The Dark is a night trail running event held at the Whitewater Center in Charlotte, NC. The event is scheduled for November 12–13, 2026 and includes packet pick-up the day before at the South Conference Center.

- 10K
- Half Marathon
Participants are required to use a headlamp or other illumination source while on course. Aid stations listed on the course provide hydration only at South Main and East Main.
Registration information includes pre-registration and day-of pricing with pre-registration available through November 11, 2026. Race registration is non-refundable. Race shirts are guaranteed for participants who pre-register by November 2, 2026. Finisher medals will be awarded to half marathon finishers who register by October 2, 2026.
Trail safety and event policies note that trails remain open to other runners, hikers and bikers during the event, and participants should communicate when passing other users. No e-bikes or powered transportation are permitted in Whitewater Race Series events. Events are scheduled to proceed rain or shine, and the Whitewater Center may alter, reschedule or cancel events. The center does not conduct trail rescues; participants must call 911 for emergency services.
Parking at the Whitewater Center carries a daily fee and alternative parking rates for oversize vehicles and annual passes. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
