8-Hours of Berm
The 8-Hours of Berm is an 8-hour timed ruck held on August 14, 2027, at the Ross Prairie Trailhead in Dunnellon, Florida. The event takes place on conservation land that includes longleaf pine forests, oak hammocks, and dry prairies along the Berm Loop section of the Skunk Ape 100 Mile course. The land was acquired through conservation funding in 1995.
The course uses fire lines or berms that run through flatwoods and scrubland, producing sandy forest roads and exposed stretches with little canopy. Terrain includes deep sand, shallower sand, overgrown forest roads, and established trail sections. The loop distance is 6.5 miles with an elevation gain of +135 feet. The organizer notes there are no DNFs and no course cutoffs.
Rucking division rules require a backpack or ruck worn on the back for the entire event. Minimum dry weights are 20 lb for women, 20 lb for men under 150 lb, and 30 lb for men 150 lb and over; dry weight excludes food, water, and worn gear. Weight checks are conducted at check-in. No weight dropping, handoffs, or outside assistance are permitted.
The venue supports self-crew setup with space for 10x10 tents and has a bathhouse. Nearby Ross Prairie Campground offers 14 sites with electrical pedestals, potable water, picnic pavilions, a dump station, and a bathhouse.
