Chickakoo - 5 Peaks Trail Running
This event is the fourth of five races in the 5 Peaks Trail Running Series, held at Chickakoo Lake Recreation Area in Parkland County, about 30 minutes west of Edmonton. Chickakoo covers 480 acres of mixed woods and lakes and supports a variety of wildlife including moose, deer, beavers, and many bird species.
The course features grinding hill climbs, technical singletrack, steep downhills, and fast hard pack sections. The start and finish are at the main parking lot and the route quickly moves into the park singletrack. Near the end of the course runners pass the ridge top and then descend back to the start and finish area. Race distances and maps may change based on trail conditions up to race day.
Event day includes on-site packet pickup, a back-of-the-pack sport start for hikers and walkers, kids runs, self-seeded waves for the Enduro and Sport distances, post-race food, and awards.
Practical details: washrooms are available at the boat launch and main parking lot. Parking at Chickakoo is limited and some vehicles may be directed to the Equestrian Parking Lot with a short walk to the start and finish. No dogs, headphones, strollers or baby joggers, nor nordic walking poles are permitted on the race course. Awards must be collected at the event. The event is cup-free so participants are expected to bring a reusable cup or container.
