Lakou Backyard Ultra

Lakou Backyard Ultra is held in the host's backyard at 26323 TWP Rd 511 Spruce Grove, AB T7Y 1E2, located about five minutes from the Town of Devon, north of the Saskatchewan River. The what3words location is maximum.trekker.international.

The event follows the backyard ultra format: all runners start at the same time and must complete a loop of 6706 meters within one hour. Completing 24 such loops is described as equivalent to 100 miles. If a runner takes longer than one hour to finish a loop, that runner receives a DNF. If a runner finishes a loop in less than an hour, the remaining time may be used before the next hourly start. Runners may attempt as many loops as they wish. To win, a runner must complete at least one more loop than all other runners; only one winner is declared.

The event supports the charity Olive Tree Projects, an organization founded in 2008. The event materials note that gift certificates are available and that race photos from 2026 exist.

Participation requires reading and agreeing to the event waiver before taking part. Refund options are specified for cancellations: 30 or more days before the event a full refund is offered less Race Roster administration fees or deferral to another race; less than 30 days a refund of 80 percent less administration fees or a deferral is offered. Accommodation suggestions include the south or west ends of the City of Edmonton or the Town of Devon. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
