Yukon River Trail Marathon

The Yukon River Trail Marathon is an annual running event organized by the Boreal Adventure Running Association since 1999. The race takes place on the traditional territories of the Ta’an Kwäch’än Council and the Kwanlin Dün First Nation in Whitehorse. The course provides a scenic route that utilizes local trail systems to showcase the natural landscape of the Yukon.

The route begins on the Millennium Trail and transitions into single-track sections heading toward Kwanlin (Miles Canyon) and Canyon City. It continues along the Yukon River trail toward Chadburn Lake and follows trails adjacent to Chadden Lake, Schwatka Lake, and Hidden Lakes. The final segment passes near the Whitehorse dam, where participants return to the Millennium Trail to run alongside the Yukon River (Chu Níikwän) toward the finish area.

The event offers the following distances:

  • Full Marathon
  • Half Marathon
  • Relay

Registration for the event is completed exclusively online. The race is supported by a volunteer board of directors and committees who manage logistics, course marking, and timing systems. Water stations are positioned along the course to assist participants. Bib pickup is scheduled at a designated location in Whitehorse during the two days prior to the race.
