Trail Running in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland
The Yandina Five 'O' is a trail running event held in Yandina, located in the Sunshine Coast hinterland. The name "Yandina" translates to "to go on foot" in the local Indigenous language. The event utilizes trails within Mapleton National Park and sections of private land. Participants encounter a variety of terrain including bubbling creeks, hilly sections, and a lookout point.
The event features four different distance options:
- 50 km (Minimum age 18)
- 36 km (Minimum age 18)
- 21 km (Minimum age 15)
- 12 km (Minimum age 12)
All races begin and end at Terella Brewing. The venue offers food, drinks, and activities for children. Registration include an event t-shirt and a finisher's memento. Participants are required to carry specific mandatory gear, which varies by distance but generally includes a mobile phone, a race bib, a compression bandage, and a minimum water capacity.
The course is marked with reflective orange and silver flagging tape and red arrows. Checkpoints along the routes provide water, electrolyte drinks, fruit, and snacks. This is a "cup-less" event, meaning participants must bring their own drinking cups for aid stations. Parking is located at 124 Lees Road, Bridges, with a free courtesy bus providing transport to the start and finish area. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
