Woodpecker Six - Central City, IA
The LoKeyz Trail Runners organizes the Woodpecker Six, a 6-hour endurance trail run held in November at Pinicon Ridge Park in Central City, Iowa. The event uses a roughly 1.2-mile loop through a hilly, heavily wooded section of the park, which totals about 966 acres. Each loop includes two large climbs, multiple stairs, and about 215 feet of elevation gain.
Course direction alternates every two hours so runners experience the loop in both directions. The event format allows participants to run or walk as much as they choose within the six-hour period. Special awards are planned for runners who complete 24 loops or more.
On-course support includes generous hot aid-station foods and warm and cold beverages at the start/finish area. Participants receive a long-sleeve race shirt if registered by the stated guarantee date. The Woodpecker lodge offers indoor space for runner drop bags and provides outdoor space for canopies and staging. Additional race funds will be donated to Pinicon Ridge Park for trail improvements.
