Withins Skyline

Withins Skyline is a fell race organised by Wharfedale Harriers, scheduled for Sunday 11 October 2026. The event includes both senior and junior races. Junior entrants receive a Curly Wurly goody bag sponsored by Precision Pest Management and there are fancy dress prizes for juniors with a Halloween theme. Entry details for 2026 are to be advised.

The senior race forms part of the Woodentops Race Series alongside The Stoop and Stanbury Splash and will use chip timing. Online pre entry is available via RaceBest with options of all three races for £25 or a single race for £9. There is entry on the day for £10. Teams of three enter free. The event is for over 18s only. Senior prize giving takes place outside the cricket hut after the race; the published prize list includes places for the first ten men and ladies, top vets in multiple age categories, top U21, spot prizes, and first team awards. One prize per person, and winners must attend prize giving to collect prizes. The prize list may be scaled back if there are fewer than 200 senior runners.

The course is 6.2 miles with 820 ft of ascent, classed BM. The route starts at Penistone Hill Country Park and circuits The Stoop and Top Withins before returning by Bronte Bridge. The detailed route passes Drop Farm, Leeshaw Reservoir beck, boggy plateau to the Stoop Standing Stone, the Pennine Way and the ruins of Top Withins, then down to Bronte Bridge, past Middle Intake farm and back to the finish on the cricket pitch. There is a 45 minute cut off at The Stoop Stone. The race base is the Cricket Hut, West End Cricket Club, Penistone Hill GR 023 363. A short fell race near Cracoe on Sunday 19 July 2026 covering 2.60 miles with about 900 feet of climb. The route crosses fields, includes a trailer and a wall to climb, rough ground and a final steep ascent.
