Course, prizes and facilities

The route starts from the quarry bottom on Penistone and follows a track to Drop Farm, then drops toward the beck that feeds Leeshaw Reservoir. It climbs across boggy plateaux to the Stoop Standing Stone, follows the watershed and climbs toward Dick Delf Hill before turning onto a narrower path that meets the Pennine Way near the ruins of Top Withens. Runners then descend to Bronte Bridge, cross the beck, follow the tourist path past Middle Intake farm and bear right to return to the finish on the cricket pitch.

The course is partially marked and navigational skills may be needed. Facilities include toilets only; there are no water stations, distance markers, changing facilities, showers or baggage store. There is a one-hour cut off at the Stoop stone. Prizes include the first 10 men and first 10 ladies, top three vets in each age category (40, 50, 60, 70), top three U21, spot prizes and first men’s and ladies’ teams. One prize per person and prizes must be collected at prize giving; the prize list may be reduced if fewer than 200 senior runners compete.
