Withins Skyline
Withins Skyline is a senior fell race held on 11 October 2026, starting from Penistone Hill Country Park. The course is measured at 6.2 miles with approximately 820 ft of ascent and is classified as a BM (fell race).
The route leaves the quarry bottom on Penistone and follows track and narrow paths to Drop Farm, then drops toward the beck feeding Leeshaw Reservoir. It climbs across boggy plateau to the Stoop Standing Stone, follows the watershed and ascends toward Dick Delf Hill before joining the Pennine Way to the ruins of Top Withins. From there the route descends to Bronte Bridge, crosses the beck and returns along a tourist path and track, diverting near Middle Intake farm to finish on the cricket pitch. The senior race is part of the Woodentops Race Series and will use chip timing. There is a cut-off of 45 minutes at the Stoop Stone. Entry options include on-the-day entry at £10, online entry for the single Withins race at £9, or a combined online entry for Withins, The Stoop and Stanbury Splash for £25. Teams of three enter free. The senior race is for over 18s only.
Junior races are held separately; all juniors receive a Curly Wurly goody bag and there are Halloween-themed fancy dress prizes. Prizegiving for seniors takes place outside the cricket hut and winners must be present to collect prizes. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
