Whiteface Mountain Races

Event overview

The Whiteface Mountain Races take place at Whiteface Mountain Ski Resort in Wilmington, NY on July 4, 2026. The weekend includes Saturday race events and informal Sunday group runs on nearby trails or peaks. The race weekend features mountain running on alpine slopes and utility roads with substantial elevation change. The finish for the main events is at the top of Whiteface’s Summit Lift; finishers may descend to Little Whiteface for a gondola ride to the base or descend on foot.

Race formats and course details

• Mountain Race (1 loop): 6.2 miles / 10k, ~3,900' gain and loss
• SkyRace (2 loops): ~12.5 miles / 20k, ~7,800' gain and loss
• Vertical K: ~2.5 miles, ~3,200' vertical gain

The Marshak Mountain Race uses mountain utility roads, grassy and hummocky slopes, and sections with ascents and descents at about 40% grade. Aid stations provide water, electrolyte drink, and snacks; mid-mountain and summit stations are on the course (mid-mountain stations at about 1.2 and 4.8 miles, summit at about 2.8 miles). The SkyRace 2-loop course has a 6-hour cutoff and requires completion of the first loop within 2 hours 45 minutes. The Vertical K has a 2.5-hour cutoff, with intermediate cut requirements at mid-mountain and the Little Whiteface junction. A Kids Klymber is offered as a roughly 1-mile ascent from the top of the gondola. Registration is noted as opening soon. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
