Whiteface Mountain Races
The Whiteface Mountain Races take place at Whiteface Mountain Ski Resort in Wilmington, NY on July 4, 2026. The event offers multiple mountain-format races on alpine slopes, utility roads, and hummocky terrain with steep sustained grades.
Distances and formats:
- Mountain Race (1 loop): ~6.2 miles / 10k, ~3,900' gain and loss
- SkyRace (2 loops): ~12.5 miles / 20k, ~7,800' gain and loss
- Vertical K: ~2.5 miles / 4k, ~3,200' ascent
The Marshak Mountain Race uses mountain utility roads, grassy and hummocky slopes, and sections with roughly 40% grade on ascents and descents. The Vertical K follows a direct, steep line from base to summit, combining grassy ski slopes, dirt service road, and alpine terrain; the upper section includes a looser service road and increased width for passing in the final mile.
Aid stations supply water, electrolyte drink, and snacks at mid-mountain and the summit. The summit lift area marks the finish; finishers descend to Little Whiteface for a gondola ride to the base or continue on foot.
Entry options include single races or a combined entry called the Vert Junky. Cutoffs are set for loop completion and total time for each race format. A short Kids Klimber ascent runs from the top of the gondola alongside the Ascent line. Sunday features low-key, no-charge group runs on nearby trails and peaks.
