Whiteface Mountain Races : Whiteface Mountain Ski Resort
The Whiteface Mountain Races are a set of mountain running events held at Whiteface Mountain Ski Resort in Wilmington, NY on July 4, 2026. The program includes a one-loop Mountain Race, a two-loop SkyRace, an afternoon Vertical K ascent, and a short Kids Klymber.
Race options:
- Mountain Race: ~6.2 miles / 10k, ~3,900 feet gain and loss
- SkyRace: ~12.5 miles / 20k, ~7,800 feet gain and loss
- Vertical K: ~2.5 miles, ~3,200 feet vertical
- Kids Klymber: ~1 mile ascent from top of the gondola
Courses use mountain utility roads, grassy and hummocky alpine slopes, and sections with steep grades commonly reaching about 40 percent. The Vertical K follows a more direct steep line using alpine slopes and service road in the upper section; course width increases near the finish to allow passing. Aid stations provide water, electrolyte drink, and light food at mid-mountain and summit locations.
Cutoffs and entry conditions are published for each event. Examples include a six hour cutoff for the two-loop SkyRace with a requirement to clear loop one within 2 hours 45 minutes, and a 2.5 hour cutoff for the Vertical K with intermediate time gates at 1.2 miles and 2 miles.
Entrants may register for individual events or a combined entry that includes multiple races. Sunday features informal local group runs on nearby trails with no charge. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
