Where Da Gold At? Backyard Ultra
Where Da Gold At? Backyard Ultra takes place March 13–14 at 98 Station St, Saraland, AL 36571. The event follows the official Backyard Ultra format with repeated 4.1667 mile loops completed every hour on the hour. The field is capped at 75 runners because of limited trailhead parking.
Runners must start each loop at the top of the hour and complete the 4.1667 mile circuit within that hour. If a runner finishes a loop early, they have the remaining minutes until the next hour for rest, eating, and gear. Any runner not inside the starting corral when the hourly whistle sounds is disqualified. The format continues hourly until a single competitor remains.
Distances, awards and milestones include:
- Half Marathon (4 loops)
- Marathon (7 loops)
- 50 Mile mark (12 loops)
- 100 Mile Club (24 loops)
- Last Man Standing champion
Basecamp allows one standard 10x10 pop-up tent or canopy per runner for crew and gear. Heavy machinery and actual backhoes are not permitted. The course uses the Jacinto Port Trail System; it is described as flat, wide enough to pass, and becomes notably different after dark. Food at basecamp includes pizza, pickles, candy, trail mix, and multiple hot meals during the event. Hydration options at basecamp include water, pickle juice, sodas and Tailwind.
