West Texas Ultra
The West Texas Ultra is a trail run event offering several distances: 10K, 25K, 50K, and 50 Miler. It takes place at the Lake Meredith National Recreation Area, starting and finishing at the South Turkey Creek Trailhead in Fritch, Texas. The course is a remote, scenic dirt single-track trail.
The event includes a Friday evening 10K race and a 10K RUCK (with a 25-pound minimum requirement), for which a headlamp is required. Saturday features the main ultra distances. Registration closes on the Friday of the event weekend.
Participants receive a race shirt. All finishers get a collectible finisher medal, with the 50K and 50M distances inscribed on the medal. First-place awards are given for all distances, and a "Dead Freakin' Last" award is presented for the 50 Miler.
The event is part of the Texas Ultra Series. Finisher medals from each series race combine to form a map of Texas. Completing all races in the series earns a special wooden display case. The top seven male and female runners by cumulative distance qualify for a separate championship event.
It is a cup-free race, meaning participants must bring their own water-carrying system. Aid stations provide food and hydration. The course is fully marked and supported by race staff and volunteers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
