West Texas Ultra

West Texas Ultra is a trail running event at Lake Meredith National Recreation Area near Fritch, Texas, with start and finish at the South Turkey Creek Trailhead in the Fritch Harbor Bay area. The event uses dirt and rocky single-track trails on the Turkey, Harbor Bay, and Fritch Fortress routes.

The race offers these distances:

• 50K
• 50 Mile
• 10K Ruck

The course is remote and rugged, with the 50 Mile route showing about 5,400 feet of elevation gain. The races use out-and-back single-track trails where participants will encounter each other. Historic average temperatures for the period range about 42 to 72 degrees Fahrenheit.

Mandatory gear includes a water carrying system. Minimum water requirements are 32 ounces for the 50M and 50K, 16 ounces for the 25K, and no minimum for the 10K beyond a cup or bottle for the finish. The 10K Ruck requires a minimum 25 pound carried weight and at least 16 ounces of hydration; a vest or sack is allowed.

Aid stations provide hot and cold foods, snacks, water, electrolytes, pickle juice, and ice; water stations supply water and ice. Drop bag transport to aid stations is not available; drop bags may be left at the start/finish area.
