West Texas Ultra - Fritch TX
The West Texas Ultra is a trail running event at Lake Meredith National Recreation Area near Fritch TX. The program includes multiple distances and a ruck option, all staged from the South Turkey Creek Trailhead on dirt and rocky single-track trails.
Distances include:
- 10K
- 25K
- 50K
- 50 Mile
- 10K RUCK
Course routes use the Turkey, Harbor Bay, and Fritch Fortress trails. The terrain is described as remote, rugged, and hilly; the 50 Mile course shows approximately 4500 feet of elevation gain. Historic average temperatures for the event period range from about 42 to 72 degrees.
Aid stations offer hot and cold foods, snacks, water, electrolytes, pickle juice, and ice. There is a separate water station with water and ice. Drop bag transportation to aid stations is not available; drop bags may be left at the start/finish area. The event is a no-cup race so participants must carry their own water system; required minimums are specified for each distance and for the ruck. The 10K ruck requires a minimum carry weight of 25 pounds and a hydration minimum.
Camping options are available nearby. Harbor Bay Campground is a short distance from the start/finish, free and first-come first-serve with restrooms but no showers. The area is remote and the single-track out and back trails may put participants on the course together. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
