Walking Tall 50/25K
Walking Tall is a trail event held October 17, 2026, at Big Hill Pond State Park in Pocahontas, TN. The event offers two distances:
- 50K (31 miles) mostly single track with minimal park road
- 25K (15.5 miles) mostly single track with minimal park road
The course includes a notable fire tower that entrants may climb for a special finishers challenge coin; completing the same number of stairs on the tower first floor is accepted as an alternate way to qualify as a finisher. A swamp boardwalk over half a mile long is part of the route. The 50K follows the 25K route until the final split, where a drop bag location and a full aid station are available before the 50K continues on the other side of the park.
Full aid stations for the 25K are located at miles 6.5, 9.6, and 12.5. Full aid stations for the 50K are at miles 15.5 (drop bag), 18.4, 23.0, 26.1, and 27.5. The event is rated 3 for elevation change and 3 for surface by Ultra Magazine standards.
The 50K has a strict 9 hour cutoff and the 25K has an 8 hour cutoff; participants must maintain an average pace of about 17 minutes 14 seconds per mile to meet the 50K limit. Year round camping is available at Big Hill Pond. The event is organized as a not for profit with 100% of proceeds to charity, split 90% to Big Hill Pond and 10% to TPRA. No refunds or deferrals are offered; bib donation or transfer options are available if the race is sold out and distance changes are allowed if space permits.
