Walking Tall 50/25K, October 17, 2026
Walking Tall takes place at Big Hill Pond State Park near Pocahontas, Tennessee. The event offers two trail distances and uses park trails and a small amount of park road. Much of the routing is single track.
- 50K about 31 miles mostly single track
- 25K about 15.5 miles mostly single track
The course includes a swamp boardwalk over half a mile long and a prominent fire tower. Finishers who climb to the top and get their bib punched receive a special challenge coin. Top three placers and course record attempts must include the tower summit; participants who prefer not to climb may complete the same number of stairs on the tower first floor and still record a valid finish.
Aid stations are placed along each course. The 25K has full aid at miles 6.5, 9.6, and 12.5. The 50K has a drop bag location at mile 15.5 and full aid at miles 18.4, 23.0, 26.1, and 27.5. Organizers apply strict overall time limits of nine hours for the 50K and eight hours for the 25K. The primary course cutoff is at mile 26.1 at the inbound railroad tracks.
The event supports park funding and park related groups. Registration opens April 3, 2026 at 1:00 PM CT. Refunds and deferrals are not offered; if the race is sold out, participants may donate or transfer a bib according to organizer procedures. Camping is available year round at Big Hill Pond.
