Walking Tall 50/25K - October 17, 2026
Walking Tall 50/25K is a trail running event at Big Hill Pond State Park in Pocahontas, Tennessee, held October 17, 2026. The event offers two distances and uses mostly single-track trail with some park road.
- 50K (about 31 miles) mostly single-track trail; second loop with multiple aid stations
- 25K (about 15.5 miles) mostly single-track trail; full aid stations at miles 6.5, 9.6, 12.5
The course features a fire tower that participants may climb as part of their finish. Runners who climb to the top and get their bib punched receive a special fire tower challenge coin in addition to the finisher item. To place in the top three or set a course record, participants must climb to the tower top; an alternate first-floor stair option is permitted for a valid finish without the coin.
Aid and cutoff details differ by distance. The 50K provides aid stations and a drop bag point on the second loop; the event enforces a strict nine hour cutoff for the 50K and an eight hour cutoff for the 25K. There is a course cut at mile 26.1 at the inbound railroad tracks. Participants may not change distances during the event.
Year-round camping is available at Big Hill Pond. The event is run as a not-for-profit; 100 percent of proceeds go to charity, with 90 percent to Big Hill Pond and 10 percent to the Tennessee Park Rangers Association. No refunds or deferrals are offered; if the race sells out, bibs may be donated to the park for resale or transferred to another person with organizer approval.
