UR Skeleton Run

The UR Skeleton Run takes place at Deerfield Town Park, utilizing the wilderness trails within the park system. Participants can choose from multiple trail-based distances that explore various terrains, including grass sections, gravel paths, and bridge crossings. The courses involve small hills and may feature muddy conditions depending on the weather.

The event offers three distinct distances:

  • 5K (3.1 miles) on park trails with gravel, grass, and minimal rocks or roots.
  • 1.5 Miles through the first loop of the 5K course for walking or jogging.
  • 0.25 Miles for children aged 3 to 12 around the inner grass section.

The 5K race is professionally timed, with awards provided for overall winners as well as the top three finishers in 10-year age groups. Participants in the shorter distances have the option to purchase event shirts while supplies last. For the children's quarter-mile run, parents may accompany their children on the grass course near the pavilion.

The event also serves as a collection point for the local food pantry. Attendees may optionally bring non-perishable food items in their original packaging to be donated to the Mohawk Valley Church Food Pantry. While costumes are encouraged for all participants, pets are not permitted at the race. Packet pickup is available on the day before the event in New Hartford or on the morning of the run at the park. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
