Courses, logistics and safety
Start locations are off-site: the 50 km start is about 20 km from Killarney, the 21 km start about 8 km away, and the 10 km start about 6 km away. The 50 km field is transported to its start by event buses included with entry; private transport is not permitted for that start. Shuttle buses are available as an option for 21 km and 10 km runners, and private transport to those starts is permitted. Parking is available opposite the showgrounds. Registration and a registration hub are located at the Killarney Showgrounds.
The terrain is off-road with slippery surfaces, roots, loose gravel, creek crossings, rocks, potholes, stock grids and uneven ground. Portable toilets will be at all course starts. Aid stations provide water, sports drinks and food at 14 km, 30 km and 41 km on the 50 km course, and at 11 km on the 21 km course; there are no aid stations on the 10 km route. First aid personnel will roam the course and be stationed at aid stations. The organisers publish a mandatory equipment list covering items such as a waterproof breathable jacket, warm layers, food, emergency blanket, whistle, mobile phone, race bib and timing wristband. 50 km competitors must have the capacity to carry at least 2 litres of water. Camping at the showgrounds is available for $25 per site per night for up to four people, prepaid with entry. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
