Umstead Trail Marathon

The Umstead Trail Marathon is a trail marathon covering 26.2 miles through the 5,000-acre William B. Umstead State Park in Raleigh, NC. The course mixes roughly 25% technical single-track trails with 75% runnable fine gravel bridle paths and includes about 2,400 feet of total elevation gain. The route passes through forested areas and near lakes and streams.

Aid stations providing hydration and fuel are located approximately every 2 to 4 miles. Stations and course monitoring are staffed by volunteers. The event is cupless; participants must carry their own drinking vessel. There is a pre-race briefing and packet pickup on the days before the race. The course has a 6-hour cutoff, which corresponds to an approximate 14:00 minute per mile pace.

Post-race amenities include a meal at the finish line. Every finisher receives a commemorative race t-shirt and a unique finisher’s pint glass. The top 15 male and top 15 female overall finishers receive handcrafted, locally sourced awards.

All event proceeds are dedicated to preservation and improvement of William B. Umstead State Park and to support local running initiatives through the Carolina Godiva Track Club. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
