Umatilla Rim Ripper

Tollgate, United States • 26 Sep 2026

Event Overview

The Umatilla Rim Ripper is a trail running event in Tollgate, Oregon, near the Blue Mountains. It is hosted by Run Oregon, a company that promotes active lifestyles in local communities. Four distances are available: a 23-mile route, a half marathon (13.6 miles), an 11K (6.8 miles), and a 7K (4.5 miles). The 23-mile distance is new for 2026.

The Course

The routes primarily use the Umatilla Rim Trail, which is described as flowy single track. They finish on forest service access roads. Each course is marked with colored flagging tape at major intersections, but runners are responsible for navigation. The trails are not closed to the public, so runners may encounter other users like mountain bikers or horses and must yield to them. A short section involves a paved forest road where motor vehicles may be present.

The course features forest scenery and views of the North Fork Umatilla Wilderness.

Aid Stations and Details

Aid stations provide water and electrolytes; the 23-mile distance also offers fuel like gels and snacks. The event is cup-less, so runners must carry their own drinking vessel. A limited number of reusable bottles are available for purchase at the start line.

The start and finish line is at Horseshoe Prairie, with portable toilets, finish line snacks, and an area for personal bags. Parking is available across the highway. Bib pickup begins at 7:00 AM on event day. A course cutoff time is set for 2:00 PM.

Registration and Awards

Registration is available online until the Wednesday before the event, with day-of registration available for an additional fee. All finishers receive event swag. The top male and female finisher in each distance receive a custom medal. A portion of event proceeds benefits a local community organization; the 2026 beneficiary is to be determined. The event is sanctioned by USATF and permitted by the Umatilla National Forest. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
