Umatilla Rim Ripper
The Umatilla Rim Ripper is a trail running event in Tollgate, OR, hosted by Run Oregon. The event offers four distances that use mostly single track along the Umatilla Rim Trail with brief sections of forest access road and pavement. Runners will pass through forested sections and reach vistas overlooking the North Fork Umatilla Wilderness.
Distances and estimated vertical gain:
- 23-miler (22.8 miles) - ~2324 ft vertical gain
- Half marathon (13.6 miles) - ~1434 ft vertical gain
- 11K (6.8 miles) - ~691 ft vertical gain
- 7K (4.5 miles) - ~423 ft vertical gain
Courses are marked with colored flagging at major intersections and occasional confidence markers. The course remains open to other trail users including mountain bikers and horses; runners are expected to yield and exercise caution where motor vehicles may be present on short paved sections.
Aid stations vary by distance and provide water, electrolytes, and fuel where noted. There is an additional aid station at the start/finish. This is a cup-less course so participants must carry a drinking vessel; 12 oz is recommended.
The start and finish are at Horseshoe Prairie, just off Oregon Highway 204, with parking at Andes Prairie Snopark. Race check-in and bib pickup occur the morning of the event. The event is USATF sanctioned and permitted by the Walla Walla Ranger District, Umatilla National Forest.
Registration windows include an early season rate and a higher rate later in the season with an extra fee for race day registration. A portion of proceeds supports local school and youth sports programs. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
