Umatilla Rim Ripper

The Umatilla Rim Ripper takes place on Saturday, September 26, 2026 on trails along the Umatilla Rim. The event is a permitted race administered by the Walla Walla Ranger District, Umatilla National Forest, and offers multiple trail distances with measured vertical gain for each course.

Distances offered:

  • 23-MILER: 23 miles, 2324 ft vertical, 18.5 miles on single track.
  • Half marathon: 13.6 miles, 1,434 ft vertical, mostly single track.
  • 11K: 6.8 miles, 691 ft vertical, single track and gravel finish.
  • 7K: 4.5 miles, 423 ft vertical, single track start and gravel finish.

Course notes: most routes follow single track along the Umatilla Rim and finish on forest access roads that combine pavement and gravel. The 23 mile distance is new for 2026 and adds a longer single track segment before finishing on access roads.

Community support: the 2026 event benefits the Weston Middle School athletic program, part of the Athena-Weston School District, and Athena Weston Youth Sports, a nonprofit serving Athena, Weston, Helix, and Adams communities. Event sponsors include local organizations such as Premier Physical Therapy, Ignite Functional Wellness, and Ben Wentz Photography. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
