Event overview

The Umatilla Rim Ripper is a trail race in Tollgate, Oregon, hosted by Run Oregon. It offers four distances:

  • 23-Miler - 22.8 miles, ~2324 ft vertical gain
  • Half marathon - 13.6 miles, ~1,434 ft vertical gain
  • 11K - 6.8 miles, ~691 ft vertical gain
  • 7K - 4.5 miles, ~423 ft vertical gain

The event is USATF sanctioned and permitted by the Walla Walla Ranger District, Umatilla National Forest. The 2026 event beneficiary is listed as TBD; prior beneficiaries include local youth sports and school programs.

Course

Most routes run on flowy single-track along the Umatilla Rim Trail with short sections of forest service access road and some paved forest development road. Courses pass views of the North Fork Umatilla Wilderness. Major trail intersections are marked with colored flagging tape and confidence markers, but runners are responsible for navigation.

Logistics and support

The Start/Finish is at Horseshoe Prairie, just off Oregon Highway 204. Parking is available across the highway at the Andes Prairie SnoPark. Portable toilets and finish-line snacks will be on site. Bag staging will be available but not secured. There will be a course cutoff.

Pacers and pets are not allowed. The course is open to the public; other trail users and motor vehicles may be present, and runners must yield and use caution.

Aid stations, registration, and policy

Aid stations by distance: four on the 23-miler, two on the half marathon, one on the 11K, and one on the 7K. All distances also have an aid station at the Start/Finish. The course is cup-less; runners must carry a drinking vessel and are recommended to carry at least 12 oz of water. Reusable bottles will be available for purchase for cash.

Registrations are accepted through the Wednesday before the event and race day registration is allowed with an added $10 fee. Two pricing periods are listed: Jan 01-Sep 01, 2026 and Sep 02-Sep 23, 2026. There are no refunds and no transfers to other runners. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
