Umatilla Rim Ripper 2027
The Umatilla Rim Ripper is a trail running event scheduled for Saturday, September 25, 2027. The event is administered under permit by the Walla Walla Ranger District, Umatilla National Forest, and the 2027 event is pending special use permit approval. The 2026 edition was cancelled because of wildfire. Registration is noted to open in early 2027.
The event offers multiple distances:
- 23 mile: single track and forest access roads, about 2324 ft vertical gain.
- Half marathon (13.6 mile): mostly single track with later access roads, about 1434 ft gain.
- 11K (6.8 mile): single track with access road finish, about 691 ft gain.
- 7K (4.5 mile): single track then gravel roads, about 423 ft gain.
Course notes describe long sections of single track along the Umatilla Rim and Lake Creek trails, with later portions of each route on forest access roads that combine pavement and gravel and lead to the finish area. The 23 mile distance was introduced for runners seeking a longer trail option than the half marathon.
The 2026 event listed two beneficiaries: the Weston Middle School athletic program, serving grades 6 through 8 with multiple team sports, and Athena Weston Youth Sports, a non-profit serving local communities with organized youth sports.
